WE TAKE THE FIRST STEP
The first step to be taken in helping victims find a pathway to freedom is taken by us. We think this first step is critical because other steps may not occur without it. When we take the first step it communicates "you are not forgotten, you have importance, and you're worth coming for."
Throughout the month, WOA Relentless Outreach teams drive the streets of downtown Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio, in search of women and men who appear to be vulnerable and victimized. If the team encounters someone who appears to be in a state of crisis, they offer them food, water, hygiene items and Narcan kits (depending on availability). As items are distributed, the team intentionally engages in conversation that will initiate personal relationships. As the team builds relationships, our new friends learn that we care about them and that they can trust us. Only when they think that we care about them and that we are trustworthy will they think about taking the next step. The next step would be to visit one of our day centers.
HOPE BEYOND US
At the end of every street encounter, we offer to pray with those we encounter. Most eagerly accept it, but if they prefer we don't, we respect their wishes. Interestingly enough, when we encounter them again, they initiate the request for prayer.
